Hello Buchtel Griffs,
I am the sister of Doretha Smith who graduated in 1969. She currently resides in Houston and is in M D Anderson Hospital because she is suffering from a life threatening disease. She needs people to donate blood to have their white blood cells transferred to her. The difficulty right now is that the persons must live in Houston because the transfer of white blood cells is a three day process and the cells cannot be transferred from other places in the world.
We know that Bonnie Arnold lives in Houston as well as Ronnie Goodwell. If you have a way of contacting them, please call me at (330) 801 0267 or email me. If you know of other Buchtel graduates and/or other persons who live in Houston and would be willing to donate their white blood cells, their contact information would also help Doretha tremendously. Our family and friends are believing for a miracle.

OMG this is crazy! I'm finally a John R. Buchtel Alumni! I graduated with the lovely class of 2008 on June 4th, 2008! I will miss my class so much! Even all the drama and non sense. What's up Griffins!
I hope this message finds you all prosperous and well. I currently reside in Las Vegas and have been blessed like many of you to have received the finest in education (Morehouse College and University of California at Berkeley) and life in general. I attribute this to the strong foundation laid by the schools (Crouse, Rankin, Perkins and BUCHTEL) in Akron. Oh, and good parental/community upbringing. I miss Akron and wish to be able to give back at some point to one of the most unique places on the planet.
After spending 25 years in the San Francisco Bay area as an educator/consultant and working with the Oakland Unified School District, Oakland Raiders, Oakland A's, Golden State Warriors, San Francisco 49ers, Mike Tyson and numerous others in the entertainment field, I still yearn and support my home town teams. Especially my Griffs. I'm currently in the beginning phase of another venture here in Vegas and looking for ideas and input on how to link it to Buchtel, the West side and Akron in general . Any ideas? Let me know, we can make it happen and benefit our community...LORD willing.

Attention All Griffs!!!
Currently recruiting for the Griffin Pride Patrol to help restore pride and maintain order at BHS. Needed are passionate alum/parents willing to take a background check a training session and volunteer at least 1 hour per week. Volunteers are needed to monitor hallways, entrances, assemblies or filing in the office. Background can have no violent or drug-related felonies or any crimes involving children. For those Griffs who cannot pass a background check or who live out of town,,,YOU CAN STILL HELP!!! Donations of $15 dollars to offset the costs of background checks can be forwarded to BHS PTA, 1040 Copley Rd.44320 PTA is paying for a limited number of backgroud checks so if that is needed please contact me asap!! We are encouraging volunteers to obtain their background checks over the break. We are anticipating our 1st training session in January. Spread the word!!!

Hello,
I attended the Turkey Jam as the guest of a Buchtel graduate, and I must say, I had a wonderful time! I really enjoyed being able to go to different areas for different activities. The Jazz band was fantastic, the Gospel Choir, as always was great, and the Poetry was a nice touch. It was good to go to an event that offers more than just a DJ, although that was nice too. Most of the time, when groups of women friends attend these functions, the men don't ever ask anyone to dance other than the person they came with, so it gets boring. They should keep in mind, a dance is just a dance! Maybe we need to bring back the "Sadie Hawkins Day" dances!!! Anyway, keep up the good work.

Hello to the Griffin Nation. Most of us all remember our days at BHS as ones of fun as well as pride and respect. Today, the halls of BHS are in a state of emergency!! As a parent of a 9th grader, I have recently witnessed an academic assembly in which students were booed when recieving awards, over 10 kids kicked out for disrupting, staff and principal garnered no respect and their yelling fell on deaf ears as students talked and disrupted THE ENTIRE ASSEMBLY!! Halls are full of trash. It was very sad to witness. Images of Lean on Me and compton come to mind,,,seriously. Teachers are overwhelmed,outnumbered and need our help. We are forming a Griffin Pride Patrol to help assist staff in returning pride and order in the halls and walls of BHS. Volunteers would need a background check, a training session and able to volunteer at least 1 hour/week. If you are interested please forward your contact info to me asap!! If thousands of us can party together every November, we can also come together to solve this most important issue. Peace and love to all!!!

Hello im a junoir at Buchtel and i heard one of our alumns speak at our class meeting and she told us to leave a message. I have some concerns about buchtel. You know how you guys (adults) run the booster club? I think that you should have shirts made for each class to wear. Also I think that one of you guys should run the school store. It SUCKS!! You can't buy anything from that store. They barely have any shirts and most of the shirts on hand arent even cute...but i think that the booster club shirts are so cute. So if you guys could just come and give Buchtel some school SPIRIT... ALSO LAST year we tired to start a pep squad but it didnt get off the ground. Mrs. Hounchins is too busy to run it but if someone could come and HYPE up some of the students...TRUST ME BUCHTEL IS NOT HOW IT USED BE!! ITS NOT AS FUN AND THERES NO SCHOOL SPIRIT AT ALL!!! Hello, I am a Junior at buchtel High this year. I REALLY like it! Everywhere I go I am proud to say that i am a Buchtel Griff and show my spirit....the only thing is...since this is my third year I clearly only have one year left...I would like somethings 2 remember it by and show off with the time I have...Our school store pretty much (sucks) and needs a major makeover ...I get mad when I see other school's stores and they have things from flags....stuffed animals...shirts...million things to choose from. But we only have a few things...and it makes me mad...most ppl at my shcool forget that we even have one...I know that we would do MUCH better if we had more things to show off our school at games...so i was wondering since none of our teachers seem to care....maybe someone else will :-] Class of "08"

I am a 1973 graduate of BHS....LOVED IT! I have participated on three reunion committees and we have experienced some of the best reunions ever!
I have a book coming out this summer (July 2006) titled, Remembering Margo. The book is an authorized biography of the life of Akron Physician, Dr. Margo Shamberger Prade, who was brutally slain eight years ago. The book signing will be held at Borders Books & Music in Montrose (Fairlawn), Ohio. There will be a "Meet the Author" "Thank You" celebration that evening at 7:00p.m. at the Tangier Restuarant for persons who purchased the book earlier in the day. The celebration will be complete with both live entertainment, and D.J., and food. Come to the signing early (about 2p.m.) so you do not miss out on your invitation to the celebration! Persons must purchase a book to attend the celebration. One invitation per person which will be given out at the book signing.
